The Telugu Department was one of the founding departments of the college. One of the first appointees as a Lecturer, Sri. U Raja Rao, who retired in 1976, was a popular scholar well known for his innumerable books and articles. His is an oft-cited name by researchers, particularly in volumes on Modern Telugu language and literature. Between 1975-76, Prof. Brahmananda an eminent scholar in the Lambadi Language and Telugu Folks literature, worked in the Department and is presently Professor and Dean in S K University, Andhra Pradesh. The recognized public figure, Dr. A Anjaneylu, appointed in 1976, retired in 2002, did significant research on the language of the 14th century. Mr. S. Chandrasekhar, the present in-charge of the Department has been contributing to and participating in the socio-cultural activities of Delhi ever since his appointment in 1979. He has been the editor of a literary magazine for a long time. He has a Diploma in Journalism from the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. His M Phil research was on “The Place of Rakapalli Anantha Krishna Sharma in Telugu literary criticism.” He has translated books from English to Telugu for the N.B.T. and has also written on children literature for the TTD Publication wing. He is the present vice President of the music lovers association.
