The Department of Mathematics at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi was established in the year 1961 with only one teacher, Dr. K. Nageshwar Rao. Mathematics was then offered as a subject in B.A. Programme only. Dr. Rao left the college in 1969 passing the baton to Mr. L. R. Gaur. Thereafter Dr. Purnima Gupta joined the department in the year 1972. It was in 1977, under the leadership of the then principal Dr. V. Krishna Murthy and with the collective efforts of Mr. L. R. Gaur and Dr. Purnima Gupta, the Department introduced the B.A. /B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics Programme which is now offered only as B.Sc. (Hons.). This necessitated the expansion of the Department which now boasts of a rich and distinguished faculty of 17 members. The three year Honours programme in Mathematics of Sri Venkateswara College is one of the most sought after course in University of Delhi. The well-structured programme empowers the student with the skills and knowledge leading to enhanced career opportunities in industry, commerce, education, finance and research. Ex-faculty: Dr. K.
