NCC at SVC
7 Delhi BattalionSri Venkateswara College began its NCC journey under the able leadership of the then Principal, Prof. P. Hemalatha Reddy. Despite being established during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCC unit continued to function with commitment and made steady progress. This momentum was further strengthened under the guidance of Prof. C. Sheela Reddy, who took charge as Principal in 2021 and extended consistent support to the unit.
A significant turning point came in September 2022 with the appointment of Lieut. (Dr.) Kameshwar Sharma YVR as the Care Taking Officer of SVC NCC. His vast experience, innovative approach, and clear vision brought renewed energy and direction to the unit. Under his leadership, the NCC's functioning became more organised and efficient, enabling cadets to actively participate in community service initiatives, leadership activities, and intercollegiate competitions.
The cadets consistently performed with distinction, bringing laurels to Sri Venkateswara College and earning recognition for their discipline and dedication. The unit also witnessed increased participation from senior wing cadets through the open category. Notably, three senior wing cadets represented the Republic Day Camp (RDC) and Prime Minister’s Rally (PMR) during 2024 and 2025, marking a proud achievement for the institution.
The year 2024 marked another milestone with the successful organisation of the first NCC fest, “SHAURYAM,” under the leadership of Lieut. (Dr.) Kameshwar Sharma YVR. This achievement was particularly commendable as it came within months of his commissioning as an Associate NCC Officer (ANO) at OTA Kamptee in September 2023. This tradition of celebration was repeated in 2025 in the 3rd edition of Shauryam.
Through sustained dedication, hard work, and discipline, SVC NCC cadets have also earned recommendations to the Indian Armed Forces through both open competitive examinations and NCC Special Entry schemes.

History of NCC
Est. 15 July 1948The youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces and the world's largest tri-services uniformed youth organization.
Lineage (1917–1942)
Origins trace back to World War I with the creation of the University Corps under the Indian Defence Act 1917 to offset manpower shortages. It was upgraded to the University Training Corps (UTC) in 1920, and later the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) in 1942.
Official Establishment (1948)
Following the H. N. Kunzru Committee's recommendations, the NCC was officially established on July 15, 1948, under the National Cadet Corps Act.
Expansion
- 1949: Girls Division was added.
- 1950 & 1952: Air Wing (1950) and Naval Wing (1952) were introduced, making it a tri-service organization.
- 1963–1968: NCC training was made compulsory across Indian universities following the 1962 Sino-Indian War, but reverted to a voluntary scheme in 1968.
Wartime Role
During the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pakistani wars, NCC cadets served as a second line of defense—assisting in civil defense, patrolling, traffic management, and supply lines.

Current CO: Colonel Manish Verma
Administered to multiple colleges and schools in the South Delhi university circuit (including Sri Venkateswara College, Motilal Nehru College, and others).
Conducts drill, weapon training, map reading, obstacle training, and field cadets for prestigious national camps like the Republic Day Camp (RDC) and Thal Sainik Camp (TSC).
What Sets 7 DBN Apart
While 7 Delhi Battalion (7 DBN) shares standard NCC protocols, several operational, geographical, and institutional features set it apart:
Hub of the DU South Campus Belt
Unlike units that cater primarily to schools or outer-Delhi institutions, 7 DBN commands the elite South Delhi university ecosystem. It oversees premier colleges such as Sri Venkateswara College (SVC), Motilal Nehru College (MLNC), Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD).
High Selection Density for National Camps
Due to the dense concentration of top-tier Delhi University institutions under its jurisdiction, 7 DBN experiences extremely fierce internal competition. Consequently, its cadets consistently capture a disproportionate share of vacancies for flagship events like the Republic Day Camp (RDC), Thal Sainik Camp (TSC), and the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).
Co-located Joint Service Hub (Safdarjung Complex)
Its battalion headquarters in Safdarjung Enclave is co-located alongside other specialized units (such as the 2 Delhi Artillery Battery, 2 Delhi Naval Unit, and Air Sqns). This proximity gives 7 DBN cadets unique access to cross-arm exposure, joint-service interactions, and combined tactical exercises.
Direct Protocol Engagements in the National Capital
Being centrally located in New Delhi under Group HQ 'C', 7 DBN is frequently deployed for high-visibility national events, VVIP guards of honor, and ceremonial duties during national celebrations like Independence Day and Republic Day.
Specialized Army Wing Focus
As an Infantry Army Battalion, 7 DBN places an intense emphasis on ground tactical training—including advanced obstacle courses, small-arms firing classification, fieldcraft, and map reading—tailored for cadets aiming to clear the Service Selection Board (SSB) via the NCC Special Entry Scheme.
Motto and Objectives
“Unity and Discipline”
एकता और अनुशासन
The official motto of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is “Unity and Discipline” (एकता और अनुशासन). Adopted on December 23, 1957 during the 12th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting, this motto serves as the foundational pillar for training India's youth across all three services (Army, Navy, and Air Force).
Core Objectives of the NCC
The primary objectives of the NCC, as laid out by the Ministry of Defence, focus on holistic youth development and national integration:
Character & Leadership Development
To develop character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure, and ideals of selfless service among young citizens.
Creating a Trained Youth Pool
To create a human resource of organized, trained, and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life, including the Armed Forces.
National Integration
To unite youth from diverse cultural, religious, geographic, and socio-economic backgrounds through national-level camps and collective exercises.
Armed Forces Orientation
To provide a suitable environment to motivate young Indians to take up a career in the Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force).
Community Development & Social Service
To engage cadets in social awareness, disaster relief operations, environmental conservation, and civic outreach projects across the country.

Marching into ExcellenceShauryam: The Annual Magazine of SVC NCC
03 EditionsShauryam, the annual magazine of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Sri Venkateswara College (SVC), University of Delhi, is a vibrant reflection of the courage, discipline, creativity and achievements of its cadets. The magazine provides a meaningful platform for cadets to express their thoughts, experiences and aspirations while documenting the remarkable journey of the SVC NCC unit.
The journey of Shauryam represents the growth and evolution of SVC NCC. The first edition presented a comprehensive account of the unit's activities, camps, celebrations, achievements and experiences of cadets. It also highlighted the values of Unity, Discipline and Integrity that form the foundation of NCC life. The magazine brought together articles, poems, photographs, event reports and inspirational contributions, creating a lasting record of the cadets' journey.
With three editions published, Shauryam has evolved into more than just a magazine—it has become a chronicle of the unit's legacy. Each edition captures the dedication and enthusiasm of cadets who participate in training, camps, social-service activities, competitions and national celebrations. It showcases not only achievements but also the lessons of teamwork, leadership, perseverance and camaraderie gained through NCC.
This remarkable journey has been nurtured under the able leadership and guidance of ANO Lieutenant (Dr.) Kameshwar Sharma YVR. His encouragement has played an important role in motivating cadets to pursue excellence and contribute creatively to the magazine and the wider activities of SVC NCC. The publication of three editions is therefore a matter of immense pride for the entire SVC NCC family. Shauryam preserves memories, celebrates achievements and inspires future generations of cadets to uphold the ideals of discipline, leadership, service and patriotism.
In every page, Shauryam carries the spirit of SVC NCC—a spirit that encourages young minds to dream boldly, lead responsibly and serve the nation with pride.
